What is the Re-Open Saskatchewan Training Subsidy and how does it work?

The Re-Open Saskatchewan Training Subsidy (RSTS) program has been launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is an employer-driven, short term training program that provides eligible employers with financial support to train employees.

What are the benefits of applying for the RSTS?

Eligible employers will receive:

Training support through the RSTS program will ensure employers have access to training to maintain business activities while continuing to promote workplace safety and stimulate competitiveness without a financial burden;

Employers select the trainee(s) and the training program;

100% reimbursement to eligible employers for approved training;

Approved employers will receive 33% of the cost of training upon entering into a training agreement with the government. The remaining 67% will be paid upon completion of final reporting and verification of actual expenditures; and

The maximum payment is $10,000 to eligible employers for the RSTS Program.

What is the grant amount?

Under the Canada Job Grant, employers are required to cover a minimum of one-third of direct training costs, with up to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee in government contributions, up to $100,000 annually as an organization.

Eligible employers

  1. All private sector and non-profit employers.
  2. First Nations and Métis Settlements.

Eligible trainees

  1. New or existing employees that will fill current or future job vacancies (business owner or self-employed persons are not eligible).
  2. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) entitled to work in Canada.
